A journey from Brunei to Sarawak

Thirty years ago, Hedley, with his wife Mary and daughter Katie, visited the Niah caves in Sarawak, East Malaysia. They traveled by car, boat and ferry.
They set off from Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei and drove to the border with Sarawak. They crossed two large rives by ferry, stopped In Miri for lunch and then continued to Niah, a small river township. Thin they hired a small boat and sailed upriver to a government rest house, where they spent the night. They ate with the small group of scientists who lived in the rest house and shared the cold drinks they had brought with them in a cool box. It was a remote spot, deep in the jungle. They slept in bunk beds with no airconditioning. It was a novel experience.
The next morning, they walked along a jungle path for half an hour until they reached the Niah caves. Inside the caves, which were very high, they saw men who climbed up tall bamboo poles. The men wore lights on their hats because it was so dark. At the top of the poles they scraped off birds’ nests from the roof of the caves. The nests were collected by their mates on the cave floor and packed into sacks. These nests were later sold and made into bird’s nest soup, a Chinese delicacy.
That afternoon, they said goodbye to their new-found friends in the rest house and set off on the long drive home. It was quite an adventure and one they would never forget.

living in a big city and a small town

I am going to write about living in a small town and a big city. There are many similarities and differences between them that I will explain.

There are several similarities between them. The first similarity is there are houses in all of them. The second samilarities is there is lighting in the streets and the streets are organized. In addition there are shopping centers , schools , colleges and sport facilities in all of them. Furthermore, people in a small town and a big city have the same customs and traditions.

Although there are similarities, there are also difference  between them. The first difference is the city has a lot of traffic but a small town is not crowded. In a big city it is noisy but a small town is quiet. In addition , the people in a big city suffer from lack of parking for their cars but the people in a small town find parking very easily.

I like living in a small town because it is good for me .

The UAE between the past and the present

There are some countries which are developed faster than the others. I am going to write about one of these countries. The UAE was one of these countries which showed a big development in the last thirty years. In this essay I’m going to compare and explain life in the UAE in the past and in the present.
There are many aspects which are similar between the two periods. The first similarity is that in both periods the same Arabic people are using the same language. In the past the number of educated people was lower than the present which is reaching 90% of the UAE local. The students are going to schools and colleges to study as opposed to the past where they used to go to the mosques, but in both situations people were willing to learn as much as they can. Although there are many similarities between the two ages, there are some differences between them. One of the differences is that people used to live in extended families, whereas nowadays families are more common. People used to live in houses built with clay and stones, but nowadays they are living in high buildings and villas.
As we can see, there are similarities as well as differences between the past and the present. In my opinion, the present is much better than the past. I really hope that my country will keep developing, so my kids will get a better style of living.

How to make butter by hand

The flowchart below shows the procedure for how to make butter by hand. Making butter is very easy. I am going to discuss and describe all steps.

First, we have fresh milk and have to check the quality and fat content. Second, leave the milk to cool. Then, separate the cream. After that, place the butter in a jar. Next, churn the cream. After that, wash the butter with cold water to remove remaining buttermilk. Next, add a small amount of salt for flavor. Then, cut and wrap the butter. Finally, store the butter in a fridge.

As you can see, the procedure is very long but if you follow it you will make good quality butter.

ATM

I am going to write about an ATM machine or cash point where customers take amoney in many places in the country.

Fifty years ago, people received their salaries or their money by hand and that was very dangerous because if they lost their money they lost all of the salary of the month. In the modern years there are ATM machines. The ATM machines make life easy and help to keep their money in a safe place. The ATM machines are in many places likes banks, supermarkets, colleges and a lot of places. In every ATM machine there is a small camera to watch around the machine to keep the place safe from thieves . When you want to use the ATM machine ,you must insert your Visa card in the machine . Then choose the language ,then write the amount of money that you want to take .

I think this invention is very good because it makes the life easy and safe for the people and I am sure here are many people happy with that machine.
